How to score two dinners

Taken before we rushed out the door
... or how we had a great day

Jac and I both woke around 4.30am. She waddled to the toilet as Frankie mewed quizzically about his breakfast, assuming that, since we were awake, it must be time for him to eat.
We got back to sleep for half an hour, before Jac turned and startled, "I think my water just broke..."

We both had bags packed with gizmos and gadgets for the first stage of labour. Neither of them were opened for the next 10 hours. Apparently, girls don't care much for the DS when the contractions begin 10 minutes apart. I got to play Words with Friends in the five minute morphine break, bracketed with hoarse yelling, "It's not enough!"

I got to see the top of my baby's head, spherical bump suctioned on, before Jac did. I guess she got to touch her first, but I'm wondering if that counts. It was about 2.45pm.

Charlotte Ophelia Melvie Stubbings flopped out at 2.55pm, on the 2nd of October, 2011. 'Flopped out' is far more accurate in describing birth. It puts to mind salmon flopping upriver, desperately avoiding bears.

  1. It's the I-have-to-go-give-birth-now-and-I'm-terrified-photo! Also look like I didn't brush my hair - even though I insisted on brushing it before leaving the house, despite the instantly bad contractions. What a silly bugger!
